
Bruce Timm's newest Batman short LOOKS like the oldest. Watch Batman: Strange Days here!
Batman: The Animated Series is beloved for too many reasons to bother getting into in an article like this. But one of those reasons was its art deco style that placed Gotham City in a world that functioned like the present, but looked like the 1940s. In Bruce Timm's newest Batman animated short, "Strange Days," he takes it one step further, with a Batman that looks very much like the Batman of 1940, and an aesthetic that would be right at home in Warner Bros. films of the era.
Loosely based on the Hugo Strange story from Batman#1 (which later got a modern update by the great Matt Wagner as Batman and the Monster Men), Batman: Strange Daysis only two and a half minutes long, but gets more done in that time than most other cartoons do in twenty-three minutes. You can almost imagine this as a companion piece to the incredible Fleischer Studios Superman cartoons of the era.
