Stephen King pays off every time. He’s a master storyteller who’s stories strike a nerve with everyone, horror fan or not. He doesn’t even have to write horror to catch the mass imagination. I didn’t know his Duma Key was even a horror story until I got through the first thousand pages or something. It was too sweet a novel on so many other levels. Well, CBS knows that too. The network picked up Under the Dome for another season and they got Stephen King to write the Season 2 premiere.
Under the Dome was a surprise smash for CBS. It debuted huge, with a 4.6 rating and a 17.8 million people watching and has been steadily growing until it’s hit about 20 million. Les Moonves, the Chief Exec of CBS, said “This is the way television should be. It’s been a great new model,” because they got a cut-rate summer licensing fee and an Amazon deal. Moonves said “Why can’t they be under the dome for a long period of time? This is television.”
Moonves wants to make more short-run series too.
