There appears to be some difficulty with Marvel's Ant-Man movie, as director Edgar Wright has left the project.
Edgar Wright has left Marvel's Ant-Man film. No further details have emerged at this time.
So far, all we have to go in is a statement released by Marvel, which we have courtesy of The Wrap.
“Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”
No matter how Marvel try and spin this one, it's a significant blow to the project. Edgar Wright has been involved with the Ant-Man film since before the shared Marvel Cinematic Universe had even really begun to take shape, and it's likely his vision (and name recognition) which has kept the project as viable as it is. Tell folks about an Ant-Manmovie and they may give you a blank stare. Tell them that Edgar Wright is at the helm, and things become more clear.
Ant-Man stars Michael Douglas as Henry Pym, Paul Rudd, and Evangeline Lilly. We'll have to take Marvel's word for it that things will still be ready to go on July 17th, 2015.
