John Wesley Shipp speaks up about his role on the Flash TV series, and a popular villain is on the way.

When it was revealed that John Wesley Shipp would have a role on The Flash TV series, fans (and writers who are otherwise supposed to be objective...like this one), got a little excited. The man who brought Barry Allen to life so well back in the '90s was going to appear? Surely, he must be playing original Flash, Jay Garrick, right? Well...wrong.

John Wesley Shipp is playing Henry Allen, Barry's father. That's appropriate enough. But Mr. Shipp has been keeping an eye on fan reaction, and he understands why folks went a little nutty about his involvement.

First off, the Jay Garrick issue. Shipp addressed the folks who would have preferred him in that role. "Believe me, Kreisberg, Berlanti and Johns, these guys are smart. They love the character and they know what they’re doing...if people were disappointed that I’m not playing Jay Garrick because they wanted to see the baton passed, they’re going to get that. It’s going to be in the context of father/son so that it will appeal to a wider audience."

Go read the rest of the interview over at Comic Book Therapy, where John Wesley Shipp talks about his life in the Flash world. It's a good read!

Now, on a somewhat more obvious note...there are going to be loads of villains in The Flash. But Geoff Johns is currently hard at work with the other Flash writers to bring a famous Flash rogue to the small screen.

Now, saying that Captain Cold is going to appear on a Flash show basically falls in the "sun rises in the east" category of reporting. But it's nice to have some confirmation. Grant Gustin's response is fun, too.
