Marvel are bringing back the original Guardians of the Galaxy team for new ongoing series.
The Guardians of the Galaxy brand has gone from obscure curiosity beloved only by "serious" comic fans to anticipated summer blockbuster in almost record time. Marvel have pivoted from sequels for three of their most well-known properties (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier) right into the riskier Guardians of the Galaxy with a marketing campaign playing up the general ridiculousness of the characters. It's working.
But what if there were another, even stranger team of Guardians that is even less familiar to fans? Well, there was. The Guardians of the Galaxy originally introduced in 1969 bears virtually no relation to the outlaws we're about to see in James Gunn's film (you can read all about them and other Guardians teams right here). Now, Marvel is about to take a chance on the original Guardians of the Galaxyone more time, this time from beloved Guardians writer Dan Abnett with art by Gerardo Sandoval.
