Tom Taylor's tie-in to the far-from-topical fighting game is getting a third volume, a new annual, and it's going back to weekly!

It seems Injustice: Gods Among Us is the property that just won't die, even if there's no announced game sequel on the horizon. Heck, even if there is a sequel, it won't be for at least two years. Yet the comic tie-in is still going strong and for good reason: it's actually quite good and is, in my opinion, one of the best comics DC has going right now. Fortunately, it'll be going on for even longer as Injustice: Year Three has been announced!

For those who aren't familiar with Injustice, the game is about an alternate Earth where the Joker emotionally manipulated Superman through tragedy and goaded him into putting a hole through Joker's torso. Five years later, Superman rules the world to protect it from itself and Batman brings the "mainstream" Justice League into his world to help overthrow him. The comics, written by Tom Taylor and drawn by the likes of Bruno Redondo, Mike S. Miller, and various others, tell the story of how we got from point A to point B. It's not like Superman's one moment of weakness turned him into a vengeful dictator overnight. No, Superman may be able to break in this story, but the bending process takes a lot longer than that and instead is treated as a slow burn coming from his desire to do the right thing for the world he loves. He's no longer holding back and it comes with a terrible price.

The first year– lasting 36 weekly issues and an annual – mainly focused on the falling out between Superman and Batman, who sees the problems with an overly proactive Superman before anyone else can and does some shady things to counter him. Heroes are killed and battle lines are drawn.

The second year has been done bi-weekly for the first twelve issues (which has certainly helped the coloring, it seems), but from now on it's weekly up until ending in September at 24 issues, along with its own annual. Filling in more of the blanks from the game's alternate universe, it mostly focuses on Commissioner Gordon making a stand when Superman's army takes over Gotham City while the Green Lantern situation is explained.

See, in the game, Sinestro is one of Superman's generals and Hal Jordan is part of the Sinestro Corps. So how does that happen and how come the Green Lantern Corps didn't stop Superman's world domination from happening? Here, we find out. Meanwhile, Batman pretty much sits this one out due to having his back broken yet again, this time via Superman's knee.

While Year Two came after a break that lasted a few months, Year Three will begin immediately after it wraps up. This time, Batman's going to exploit Superman's magic weakness as we're set to have Batman and Constantine vs. Superman and his regime. Pretty decent way of cross-promoting Constantine's upcoming TV series.

Injustice: Year Two #13 came out this week and if you're on the fence about the series, I suggest spending the two bucks on Comixology and giving it a shot. It's a rather nice issue about Black Canary crossing paths with Harley Quinn in the Arrow Cave. Fighting happens, but the follow-up is partially sweet and partially heartbreaking.

The worst part, though? Knowing that Guy Gardner's days are numbered. He ain't in the game, which means it's only a matter of time before he's torn in half.
