Oh, glorious day! Gail Simone is returning to the Secret Six for DC Comics!
Perhaps the most unfortunate casualty of the New 52 reboot at DC Comics was the abrupt ending for the Gail Simone written fan favorite, Secret Six. While it was still a pretty moving finale, it all happened so suddenly, and fans of the book (including this writer) weren't ready to let it go. For those who don't know, Secret Six was an ongoing series about a small group of mercenaries, miscreants, and malcontents (including characters like Deadshot and Bane...yes, that Bane) and their misadventures through the DC Universe. It was violent, hilarious, surprisingly moving, and generally brilliant.
(ahem) What was that about objectivity, again?
Anyway, Secret Six is returning to the DC Universe, albeit in a New 52 form, and they're bringing Gail Simone back for writing duties, as they should. Ken Lashley will be handling art duties. Ms. Simone had been teasing a "secret" project on Twitter since it was announced that she would be handing over Batgirl to a new creative team, and since she enjoys poking fun at (trolling, actually, she trolls us) her fans, we didn't really expect it to be "secret" with a capital "S." But it is! And she promises that Secret Six"is going to be a very dangerous, sexy book."
Among the many impossibly cool things that Secret Six pulled off was they made minor, forgotten Batman villain, Catman (yes, Catman) incredibly badass. What's more, Ms. Simone had promised that she had written the character as bisexual, although that was never reflected on the page. However, it sounds like that's going to change, as she told Hero Complex that "You’re going to see right away kind of what Catman’s about. I don’t want to reveal too much just because it is part of his character and part of his story to unfold these things through the story."
The lineup hasn't been revealed yet (although there are some clues on that cover) other than Catman and Black Alice, both of whom will make their first New 52 appearances in the pages of Secret Six #1.
