The first ever dramatisation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's 1990 novel, Good Omens, is coming to BBC Radio 4...

Here's some news to put a spring in any fantasy fan's step: following the success of 2013's splendid Neverwheredramatisation, BBC Radio 4 is working its magic on another UK modern classic, Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's 1990 novel Good Omens.

Due to air in six parts over a single week in December 2014, Good Omens comes from the creative team behind Neverwhere, with The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy's Dirk Maggs adapting and directing, assisted by producer Heather Larmour and of course, Neil Gaiman.

It's the first time the co-authored novel, which tells a raucous story of ancient prophecies, impending armageddon, and a sushi-loving Angel, has been adapted for radio, with progress on a much-anticipated film version with Terry Gilliam appearing to have stalled for the foreseeable. The story of Good Omen's collaborative creation - a succession of floppy disks on return Royal Mail trips whizzing between the desks of two of the UK's greatest fantasy authors - is almost as much fun as the tale itself. (Well, it would be if it had a few more demons, angels and potential antichrists at least.)

The radio drama begins recording today, with a whopping cast including Guardians Of The Galaxy's Peter Serafinowicz and Green Wing's Mark Heap in the respective roles of demon Crowley and angel Aziraphale. They'll be joined by Merlin's Colin Morgan, Neverwhere's Paterson Joseph, the wonderful Josie Lawrence, Game Of Thrones' Clive Russell, Sherlock's Louise Brealey, Being Human's Phil Davis, and many, many more. We can also expect cameo appearances from both authors, says the BBC.

We'll keep you posted on this one.
