TNT is working on bringing Nightwing and the Teen Titans to live-action.

It looks like Dick Grayson is finally going to get to be on TV after all, but it won't be on Arrowas fans originally thought. TNT is nearing a deal to bring Nightwing to live-action TV with a pilot called Titans. Akiva Goldsman (Fringe...we'll try and forgive him for Batman and Robin) is writing and executive producing with Michael Haimes as co-executive producer.

Titanswill deal with how Dick Grayson “emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others. Titansis a dramatic adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book titles ever.”

Titans is, of course, a teen-less version of the long running Teen Titans comic, which grew to maturity under Marv Wolfman and George Perez in the '80s. It was in that title where we watched Dick Grayson truly outgrow the role of Robin and adopt the new superheroic identity of Nightwing, while another beloved sidekick, Wally "Kid Flash" West found the self-confidence (and character development) to eventually take over for his mentor.

There is no word on when we might see Titans, but things tend to move fairly quickly with TV, so it might be sooner than you think. If Titansmakes it to the screen, this is a huge evolution for the newly-minted superhero TV genre, and depending on the timing, it might even beat Justice League to the punch as the first team of DC superheroes to make it to live action.

The prominent inclusion of names like Starfire and Raven in that description which hit all the trades (we got ours from Entertainment Weekly for the record) means that right off the bat (so to speak), Titanswill not shy away from the more fantastic elements of the DC Universe the way that, for example, Arrowdid in its first season. And as we've already seen from Arrowseason two, and the pilots and early publicity materials for The Flash and Constantine, when DC brings these characters to TV, they don't mess around with bringing as much of their respective corners of the DCU with them.

Of course, the Teen Titans have been quite present on TV in recent years in a number of forms, with the Teen Titans Go and Young Justiceanimated series. Titansjoins the recently announced Supergirlseries in the next wave of superhero shows. What might be next?
