We have a first look at the Axis tie-in miniseries where an unrepentant mass murderer randomly tries to become a good guy! Sure, why not?
The upcoming X-Men/Avengers crossover Axisis going to take a weird turn with the new miniseries Axis: Carnage, which starts at the end of this month. Written by Rick Spears and drawn by German Peralta, the side-story will be the first of its kind: a comic where Carnage is the hero. Or at least, the comic where he's trying to be!
We still don't know the full details of what Avengers & X-Men: Axis is all about, but from the looks of the pages, some kind of combination of Red Skull's newfound psychic powers and Scarlet Witch's hex magic is screwing with the good/evil alignments of the Marvel universe. For the most part, this is about heroes becoming evil, but you'd be hard pressed to make someone like Cletus Kasady and his killer symbiote more sinister. No, there's nowhere to go but up.
Carnage's "father" Venom has played the good guy role many times before, ever since being the Lethal Protector back in the early 90s. Hell, the current Venom's the most heroic one yet! Even Carnage's "son" Toxin started off as a pretty pure-hearted symbiote vigilante. Carnage is different, though. Eddie Brock was crazy, but at least his heart was in the right place. Kasady has always been one of the world's worst people. He's killed into the triple digits and the more innocent, the better. One simply can't suddenly become a good guy when you've bathed in the blood of children.
It'll be an interesting story, regardless. He may want to be a good guy all of the sudden, but how does he do that? It's one part Superior Spider-Man and one part Mark Waid's Incorruptible. Though it works out, since Carnage loves his chaos and what's more unexpected than this?
Oh, and there's a new Sin-Eater running around. That's pretty unexpected too.
