Anthony Horowitz will pen a new James Bond book, "Murder on Wheels" for release in 2015.
The next James Bond novel will come from an unpublished Ian Fleming short story called "Murder on Wheels." Anthony Horowitz, famed English mystery writer who recently penned the authorized Sherlock Holmes novel The House of Silk, is adapting the Fleming story, which was originally intended as a treatment for an episode of an unproduced (this is before the films) James Bond TV series.
“It’s no secret that Ian Fleming’s extraordinary character has had a profound influence on my life, so when the estate approached me to write a new James Bond novel how could I possibly refuse?” Mr. Horowitz told The Guardian.“It’s a huge challenge – more difficult even than Sherlock Holmes in some ways – but having original, unpublished material by Fleming has been an inspiration. This is a book I had to write.”
Untangling Bond's literary continuity is a difficult job, as the novels, even the post-Fleming ones (especially the series by John Gardner in the '80s) are very much products of their time. To that end, Murder on Wheelsisn't a contemporary story, and is instead set in the era in which it was originally conceived, the 1950s.
Murder on Wheels will see publication in September 2015.
