With everyone else showing up on Gotham, why not Harley Quinn or Robin, right? Bruno Heller would like a word about this...
Recently, Ben McKenzie hinted that we may see a little of Robin on Gotham. In all likelihood, that would involve Haly's Circus and the Flying Graysons rather than young Richard, himself. Then again, I don't put anything past this show.
Well, as Mr. Heller put it, "There's an episode coming up where we learn how Robin's parents got together." Folks, I'm all about Dick Grayson's backstory. I think the circus is fertile setting for the strangeness of Gotham, and I think we'd do quite well exploring that world. But if it's Alfred, Jim, or Bruce who end up making John and Mary Grayson get together, I'm out.
Anyway, before I lose my mind over this, Mr. Heller also promised that "Harley Quinn is definitely planned for later on," and reaffirmed plans to eventually introduce the Joker. He cautioned, however, “You can’t just keep pumping these characters into the show in a comic book sort of way, because you get the Super Friends effect—which isn’t a bad effect, but then you have spaceships and need to go underwater and get wacky villains and the rest of it...You have to work as a character piece first. First it has to be real.”
He's right. But I wish he would heed his own advice.
