The comic book writer's newest TV adaptation has found its central cast

Another one of Robert Kirkman’s comic books is getting the TV treatment, this time heading to Cinemax.

It’s a good time to be Kirkman. The Walking Dead is scaring up plenty of viewers on AMC, becoming cable’s big, stand-out hit, and now Kirkman’s Outcast hopes to do the same for pay-cable, HBO sister network Cinemax.

Outcastfocuses on Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit) a man who’s been afflicted with bouts of possession since he was a child. As an adult, Kyle sets out on a spiritual journey to find the reasons behind his constant torture, and the ramifications may lead to the end of the world. Also in the cast are Philip Glenister (Life on Mars) as Reverend Anderson, a hard-drinking, gambling West Virginia preacher who considers himself a soldier in God’s Holy War against evil, Reg E. Cathy (House of Cards) as Giles, the chief of police and friend of Anderson who’s skeptical, but a witness to the strange happenings that Anderson gets caught up in, Julia Crockett(Law and Order: Criminal Intent)  as Kyle’s verbally abusive mother and possible victim of possession Sarah, Wrenn Schmidt (Boardwalk Empire) as Kyle’s adopted sister and childhood psychologist Megan, and Kip Pardue (Ray Donovan) as Megan’s husband Mark, a small-town cop with a temper and major reservations on the idea of possession.

Kirkman will script the pilot episode of Outcast, his first TV venture, and Adam Wingard (The Guest) is on-board to direct.
