CBS are moving quickly on bringing Supergirl to the screen. Expect to see her in 2015.

News

Some indications are coming out of the Television Critics Association press tour that the SupergirlTV series from Greg Berlanti (Arrow) and Ali Adler (Chuck) is going to arrive in time for the Fall 2015 TV season. CBS president Nina Tassler refers to the show as "a real passion of ours" and that the network "fell in love with the pitch."

Plus, it turns out that they've already started making the costumes, so that sounds more than promising. Colleen Atwood, who designed costumes for The Flash and Arrow has made the Supergirl suit, which Ms. Tassler decribed as"awesome."

The TCA stuff is still developing but we have some other important details about what to expect from the show. For one thing, Supergirlwill take place in the same universe as The Flash and Arrow, and despite being on different networks, there's the hope that characters from Supergirlcan interact with those on the CW show. And then we have these character descriptions from the casting breakdowns:

Kara "Supergirl" Danvers:"Kara at age 12 was sent from her dying home planet of Krypton to Earth, where she was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. After repressing said skills for more than a decade, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster. Energized by her heroism for the first time in her life, she begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a super moniker along the way."

As for who might play Kara, Ms. Tassler told Deadlinethat "We are looking for someone who inhabits the freshness of being a woman in today’s challenging climate, someone who can carry this kind of series on her shoulders.”

Alexandra "Alex" Danvers: "Kara’s gorgeous, brilliant, science-minded foster sister. Growing up, Alex was partly jealous of her sibling yet also fascinated by her abilities, prompting Alex to learn as much as she could about alien anthropology, sociology and culture. Today, Alex works for a secret government organization and, alongside her heroic sis, will face many challenges, both mundane and super."

OK, so, Krypton: check. What's more, it appears that the basics of Supergirl's story holds true to the early days of her comic book appearances, where she had to operate entirely in secret. It kind of sounds like she won't be wearing a costume, at least early on, but hopefully we see that iconic "S" crest sooner than later.

I wonder if the Alex/Lex similarities are accidental...maybe she's adopted, too?

Cat Grant:"The project is eyeing females in their 40s, open ethnicity, to play the founder of CatCo, a media conglomerate that Cat built from the ground up. Kara (Supergirl’s mild-mannered alter ego) will work as a personal assistant to Cat, who is described as “J.Lo by way of Anna Wintour.”

James Olsen:"In his late 20s/early 30s, open ethnicity, James is a smart, worldly and (duh) attractive photographer for CatCo. Though an alpha male, his salt-of-the-earth nature elicits a huge ol’ crush from Kara."

Winslow "Wynn" Schott (That's the Toyman, kids): "This twentysomething tech whiz/Comic-Con stalwart toils for CatCo as a programmer, unaware of his own potential. Unware of her secret, he carries a torch for Kara, whom he lives next door to."

Hank Henshaw:"As an upstart CIA agent, Hank grew obsessed with intergalactic intel. Now in his '40s and lording over the DEO (Department of Extra-Normal Operations), he is on high alert when Supergirl reveals herself, worried that her otherworldly abilities pose a threat to humankind."

So, the Toyman and the guy who becomes the evil "Cyborg Superman" are now in the mix, along with two Daily Planet stalwarts. This suddenly is looking like exactly the kind of sandbox that Greg Berlanti loves to play in. In the meantime, if you want to know more about Supergirl, we've got you covered.

Thanks to TV Line for the casting breakdowns and the TCA info!
