JM DeMatteis was one of the evil geniuses behind one of the most beloved periods in Justice Leaguehistory. That would be the famous (or infamous, depending on who you ask) "bwa-ha-ha" era of Justice League. Mr. DeMatteis, along with Keith Giffen and a slew of artists like the brilliant Kevin Maguire, took a team of DC Comics b-listers and made them the focus of one of the most interesting books of the decade. While everyone else was trying to out "grim n' gritty" each other, Justice League focused on interpersonal relationships and humor...and still had plenty of time for solid superhero action.

What the hell does any of this have to do with Justice League Unlimited, the gold standard of long-form animated superhero storytelling, you ask?

Well, Mr. DeMatteis also wrote seven episodes of Justice League Unlimited. He should have written eight. JLUwas known for slipping some terrific "one and done" stories into its epic season-long arcs, such as the perfect "Flash and Substance" or the DeMatteis penned adaptation of Alan Moore's classic Superman tale, "For The Man Who Has Everything." Well, "Misfortune Cookies" was Mr. DeMatteis' attempt to bring some "bwa-ha-ha" to the animated Justice League.

It was, sadly, rejected. But his complete outline, dated July 20th, 2004, gives us a look at what could have been. In this case, "what could have been" is a story about J'onn J'onzz's famous addiction to Oreos. Yes, you read that right. Other characters along for the ride include JLI stalwarts like Booster Gold, Elongated Man, and Fire and Ice.

You can read the outline over at JM DeMatteis' blog. You can thank me later.
