We're only a few months away from Battleworld bringing the end of all things. Marvel's got some big reveals coming later today.
NewsWhile Marvel has been giving us event stories non-stop for years with Fear Itself, AvX, Infinity, Axis, and so on, the big feeling to them has dropped. Not since Civil War has an event actually felt like an Earth-shattering story that would have massive consequences (not counting World War Hulk, which had literal Earth-shattering in the last issue). Even Infinity, while fantastic, was just a big story arc from Jonathan Hickman’s Avengersand New Avengersrun that they decided needed a handful of tie-ins to enhance its hype.
Secret Wars, on the other hand, is looking to be a lot bigger. The finale of Hickman’s double Avengers run with art by Esad Ribic is going to be overwhelming Marvel for the whole year. The mainstream world of Marvel 616, the world of Ultimate Marvel, and all sorts of different realities will be secretly warring it out in a way much similar to the original Secret Wars comic of the '80s that also went on for a full year. The way Marvel’s treating it, this is either the biggest storyline since Civil War or it will even eclipse that Captain America vs. Iron Man story with what is so far a better-written Captain America vs. Iron Man story.
Later today, Marvel is going to be making a major announcement on the crossover, which will be starting up in May. Check back in this space later and we’ll tell you what’s what.
