I'm seeing double! Three Thors! ...Wait, I did that wrong. Anyway, check out some preview pages from CM Punk's comic writing debut.
PreviewIn one month, Marvel is going to be releasing Thor Annual #1 and it’s going to be a doozy. Not only are we getting three Thor stories by three different creative teams, but they’re all going to be about different eras and different Thors. We’ll get to see Thor in the past (back before he needed to be worthy to begin with), we’ll see the current female Thor in action, plus we’ll see the grizzled Thor of the future.
While most annual issues fall under the radar, this one’s been long-awaited for months due to the news that CM Punk (otherwise known as Phil Brooks) will be writing the story about the younger Thor. For those of you outside the pro wrestling bubble, Punk was a wrestler who gained acclaim as a hip, rebellious anti-hero inside and outside of the ring, but left WWE a year ago. Depending on who you ask, Punk was either a selfish ingrate who was given more than enough or he had legitimate gripes and was underutilized by a company that would never truly get behind him no matter what he did. Regardless, he’s retired from in-ring action and is rich enough to spend the rest of his life doing whatever the hell he wants. So far that means writing comics and training for a quick MMA run.
Punk will be teaming up with Chew’s Rob Guillory, which is a match made in heaven. There’s some irony in his story as it’s based on Thor besting Mephisto in a drinking contest. Punk is famously straight-edge, so that’s a funny direction to go.
The other stories will involve Noelle Stevenson writing about the ever-controversial female Thor as the Warriors Three try to figure out her identity. Marguerite Sauvage will be on art. Then you have the current Thorwriter Jason Aaron teaming up with Timothy Truman to tell a story about King Thor, the Galactus-slaying badass from the distant future.
Thor Annual #1 will be released on February 25th. Check out some of the art below.
