Mike Colter will play Luke Cage in an upcoming Marvel Netflix series. He offers a few details here...
NewsWe haven't even seen Marvel's DaredevilNetflix TV series yet, and its follow-up, AKA Jessica Joneshas only just begun filming, but Mike Colter is already ready to talk about Luke Cage. Luke Cagewill be the third installment in Marvel's five interlocking Netflix series (the fourth is Iron Fist, and then everyone will come together for The Defenders), and we won't see him in solo action until 2016.
Mr. Colter spoke with IGNabout what makes Luke Cage special, and what sets this series apart in terms of tone from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
"What I’m most excited about is touching on what makes him tick. It feels good to get a character that has such a story, background, and history. And when I look at the scripts, I’m really pleased with it because it’s a slow-burn; there’s nothing happening really fast that gets ahead of itself. I’m really with where they’re taking it and how they’re developing the characters, because it’s really cool and it’s geared towards an adult audience, which is something that will be different from the Marvel Cinematic Universe you’ve seen before on the big screen."
That bit about "an adult audience" is something we've heard several times regarding Daredevil, and what we've seen of that show so far certainly looks like it's a little darker than some of Marvel's other cinematic and TV fare. It's also a pretty safe assumption that we'll meet Luke Cage briefly in Daredevil, as Rosario Dawson's "Night Nurse" character shares a name with a character who was Cage's ex-wife in the comics. Cage also dates Jessica Jones, so he'll be a pretty hefty presence in AKA Jessica Jones, which we may see before 2015 is out.
