Production begins on the CBS pilot for Supergirl with images from the set, including of Melissa Benoist, aka Kara Zor-El.
NewsFaster than a speeding bullet, production on the Supergirl TV show began today. Thanks to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, we also now have our first image from the big day. Director Glen Winter has also shared via Twitter a picture of him with Supergirl star Melissa Benoist.
As the newest superhero series from Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions, Supergirl follows in the footsteps of Arrow and The Flash. Indeed this variation of Kara Zor-El might even be in the same universe as those CW masked marvels.
Supergirl is also set to star Laura Benanti, Mehcad Brooks, Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, Dean Cain, and Helen Slater.
Kara “Supergirl” Danvers is described in the series as having, at age 12, been sent from her dying home planet of Krypton to Earth, where she was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. After repressing said skills for more than a decade, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster. Energized by her heroism for the first time in her life, she begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a super moniker along the way.
Supergirl was created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino in 1959 to be a female counterpart to her more famous relative.
