NewsFish Mooney has been a narrative staple for Fox’s hit series Gotham throughout the first season. In fact, I think it is safe to say that while the police procedural aspects of the Batman prequel have been less than riveting, there always remained a certain amount of bemusement on the gangster side of things, especially between Fish Mooney and her little guppy, the Penguin (Robin Taylor).
Well, that facet may be swimming away for Gotham season two, as Jada Pinkett Smith revealed while chatting with Kelly Rippa and Michael Strahan this morning that she is currently only signed on for one season.
While featured on Live with Kelly & Michael, Smith said, “I signed for a year, and the year is up.” When pushed further about whether she might return for season two, she replied, “I don’t think so.”
This would seem to indicate that Smith’s character might be sleeping with the fishies by the end of season one (I deeply apologize for that unavoidable pun). And considering all season long has circled around Fish and Penguin’s seeming death spiral, it might be inevitable…
…Or it might be a good way to raise your asking price for a second season contract renewal. After all, Gotham is now one of the hottest shows on television, and if Fox thinks keeping Fish Mooney around is worth it, I’m sure that Smith’s agent will at least hear out what they have to say…
