Fresh off a run as Howard Stark on Agent Carter, Dominic Cooper may fill Jesse Custer's boots for AMC's Preacher TV series.

News

As Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's Preachermoves closer to production, casting is going to become a concern sooner rather than later. Jesse Custer is the titular preacher, and he's supposed to be such a powerful and charismatic screen presence that finding the right guy for the role is going to be about half the battle.

The other half is a good script which, by all accounts, the Preacher pilot has. So there's that.

It looks like Dominic Cooper is the frontrunner for the part of Jesse Custer right now. Cooper has done the fast-talking badass routine as Howard Stark in Agent Carter and Captain America: The First Avenger. Now he'll have to do the somewhat more forceful, occasionally tormented thing as Jesse Custer, a small town preacher who suddenly finds himself with the power of the Word of God. In other words, if he tells you to do something, you have no choice but to obey...often literally.

The news comes to us via The Tracking Board, and they admit that no official offers have been made yet. I've reached out to reps for AMC and Mr. Cooper, but it's after business hours, so I don't expect a response until tomorrow...if at all.

Preacheris one of the finest comics of the '90s, and has a sensibility that would fall squarely between the action and horror of The Walking Dead(Jesse's best friend is a hard-partying vampire) and the utter insanity and emotion of Breaking Bad. In other words, it's perfect for AMC. Hopefully this comes together quickly.
