Wally West and Bart Allen could be coming to The Flash season 2. Details here.
NewsUPDATE: Back in September, The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti indicated that an appearance by young speedster Wally West could be in the cards. Now it looks even more likely. In fact, Wally might not be coming alone.
When asked if and when we'd meet other heroic speedsters like Wally West or Bart Allen, Mr. Berlanti said "That's our hope...and we've already been picked up for a second season so I think if we're going to do something like that, we would do it next season. (quotes come via ComicBook.com)
Our original story from September follows, and that has even more details about which version of Wally will make an appearance on the show!
Original Story: 9/7/14
If you're a comic book fan waiting impatiently for The Flash TV series, this may not come as all that much of a surprise. With Iris West such a crucial figure on the show, it's likely only a matter of time before we see her nephew, Wally West, make an appearance. It's nice to know that the producers are already thinking of exactly this, and understand just how important Wally's introduction to the show will be.
During an event at the Paley Center for Media on Saturday evening, a fan asked The Flash executive producers about the possibility of ever seeing a "black Flash" on the show. Greg Berlanti replied with "We made the Wests African-American so that we could ultimately head in that direction, absolutely...That's our hope."
With Wally West's recent re-introduction into the DC Universe in his New 52 incarnation, the former redhead (and future Flash) is now an African-American teenager. This is no accident, considering that executive producer Geoff Johns is also the CCO of DC Entertainment. Andrew Kreisberg pointed out that when they began casting for The Flash, "in the New 52 they [DC Comics] hadn't reintroduced Wally...when they reintroduced Wally, they made him African-American. So now and forever, Kid Flash will be African-American."
We wouldn't necessarily expect to see Wally any time soon, and it would certainly take far longer before the show would feel comfortable enough introducing another heroic speedster into the mix, but it's encouraging to hear Berlanti and Kreisberg are already thinking about the future of these characters. The Flashis a remarkably faithful reinvention of Flash's comic book mythology, and things just wouldn't feel right if Wally didn't show up eventually.
Here's a look at what the current incarnation of Wally West looks like in speedster garb:
