Some more news about the potential villain and the tone of the CW's Arrow and Flash superhero team show have surfaced.

News

One of these days, they're going to have to announce the name of this new Arrowand The Flash spinoff show, because these headlines are going to get unwieldy awfully quickly. They had better call it The Brave and the Bold. Anyway, the series, which will star Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The Atom as well as an assortment of characters who have already made their mark on Arrowand The Flash, plus a few we haven't met yet, is a lock for the fall season. It's going to be a long wait.

In the meantime, we're rounding up all the information we can find on this exciting upcoming addition to the Arrowverse (that's a word, right?) in one place for you.

Executive producer Greg Berlanti is likening the tone of this still-untitled show to some important cinematic touchstones. "I compare the shows to old Westerns; we have a lot of lone gunmen and sheriffs in town, and this one is very much an ode to things like The Magnificent Seven or those great heist pics like Ocean’s Eleven where you get all of those colors at the same time, and a true ensemble, and that was the fun of it...you want that Rat Pack-y kind of vibe of all this crew hanging out, as disparate and as different as they are.”

The Characters

Some of the cast for the show has already been announced, and then for some of the others all we have are some character descriptions. Brandon Routh (as the Atom) will lead a new superhero team on the CW, which will also include Caity Lotz (Black Canary), Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Heat Wave), and Victor Garber (half of Firestorm). Robbie Amell, who plays the other half of Firestorm, has not signed on for the show yet, and might not.

We've been promised that the team would be rounded out with three more superheroes who have never appeared in live-action before. Some casting breakdowns have surfaced (thanks to TV Line), and we have a pretty good idea about who they might be.

“THE TRAVELLER” | A Han Solo-esque rogue who gets by with his charm, this hero hails from the future, and has journeyed back in time on a secret mission. His razor-sharp wit hides the pain of a man who has lived through serious conflict. He also harbours many secrets, always leaving both his teammates and the audience unsure of his true allegiances.

“FEMALE WARRIOR” | This twenty-something Latina is pretty but unassuming, book smart and socially awkward by day. But by night, when she hears the cry of battle, her fury is ignited and she becomes a fierce warrior — so much so, that sometimes she can become a threat to others.

“MYSTERY HERO” | An African-American male in his twenties will fill the role of a regular, street smart guy who unexpectedly gains powers, and then, as part of the team, regularly quips about the insanity of the situations."

"The Traveller" is almost certainly Rip Hunter. While Booster Gold also seems like a good fit, he's already made an appearance in live-action on an episode of Smallville, so that would appear to rule him out, depending on how serious they are about the whole "never been seen before" thing. But if Rip Hunter is here, then maybe we'll get to see Booster somewhere down the line, and that's a character who is positively screaming for his own series.

"Female Warrior" is a little less obvious, but could be Fury, an Amazonian warrior. I also wonder if they'd go with a variation on Yolanda Montez, who took up the mantle of Wildcat for a period in the post-Crisis DC Universe. They could conceivably play up the werecat elements from the Tom Bronson version of the character if that's the case.

"Mystery Hero" is tougher to judge, as there's no power set listed. Cyborg is already tied up with Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justiceand the JusticeLeaguemovies, and there's a chance we'll meet him on that Titans TV series down the line, too. Static is a character that Warner Bros. loves to play with, although he's currently in line for a live-action web series of his own. Perhaps this will be used to help launch that?

As for who the villain might be, Greg Berlanti is promising that it's "another big character who hasn’t been used yet." Who could this be?

More on this as we get it.
