We've been told that Marvel's Daredevil Netflix series has an edge. But a Punisher series could take it to the next level.
NewsMarvel has picked the showrunner for the third of their Netflix series, Luke Cage. Cheo Hodari Coker has been chosen as executive producer for that one, which we expect to see in 2016. Luke Cagestars Mike Colter in the title role and presumably will feature Krysten Ritter in some capacity as Jessica Jones. Cage will be introduced in the AKA Jessica Jonesseries, which will follow Daredevil later this year or in early 2016.
And in other Marvel Netflix TV series news...
Remember when Disney bought Marvel and people worried that their heroes and villains would become "Disneyfied?" That didn't turn out too bad. And then remember when the rights to the Punisher reverted to Marvel/Disney and we all figured that we'd never see the bloodthirsty Frank Castle on screen again because, y'know...Disney?
Well, the showrunner of Marvel's DaredevilNetflix TV series would like to put your minds at ease. While he's not promising anything, Steven S. DeKnight describes himself as "a huge fan" and definitely wants to see a version of the Punisher make it to the screen. And not a watered down one, either.
”I’d love to see him get his due on a platform like this. Nothing would delight me more than to see the Punisher get his own show and maybe we could convince Marvel to go Hard-R rating. If any character deserves an R rating, it’s the Punisher.”
(thanks to SciFi Nowfor the above quotes!)
Don't expect to see Punisher show up in this season of Daredevil, but perhaps Marvel will drop a hint or a name. There are four more NYC-based Marvel Netflix series on the way after this one, so there's still plenty of time to find a way to introduce the Punisher in some form in one of them if they decide to go that route.
Meanwhile, Daredevildrops on Netflix on April 10th.
