Jon Snow Throws a Game of Thrones Dinner Party with Seth Meyers

The night is dark and full of terrors. But don’t worry; Kit Harington as Jon Snow is on hand to make it all seem better with “small talk.”

The central conceit of the latest viral Game of Thrones video is what happens when you invite the Bastard of Winterfell to a 30-something Manhattan dinner party. The answer is nothing good, because Jon Snow knows nothing except how to make things awkward.

It is actually a very amusing premise from Late Night with Seth Meyers that I’d recommend the talk show turn into a running gag. Imagine if Tyrion was allowed to crash a Seth Meyers dinner party in a few weeks? Or what about Brienne of Tarth and Jaime Lannister? It could be veritable running series of George R.R. Martin characters having trouble blending into a world where most songs are not about ice and fire.

Obviously, this is also in anticipation of Sunday’s much heralded return of Game of Thrones with the new season five.

Game of Thrones season five picks up right after the madness of the season four cliffhanger. King’s Landing is in mourning and upheaval after the death of Tywin Lannister, which leaves his two eldest children, Cersei and Jaime, in grief and at odds. As Cersei takes on a more commanding role of governance as her son’s regent, the capital’s religious community grows more fervent with the arrival of a new Septon; meanwhile an uneasy alliance is formed between the men of the Night’s Watch and King Stannis Baratheon, who has come to “liberate” the North from the Boltons and Lannisters.

Across the Narrow Sea, Arya Stark arrives in Braavos to start a life with a new evocation, and Tyrion is set on his own quest to find a new queen that rules over the former slave city of Meereen. But he should be careful, because there will be dragons out there.
