NBC has ordered 10 episodes of Emerald City, which is the third Oz-related TV project heading our way.

The Wizard of Oz mythology is getting yet another facelift, and this time it's for television. NBC has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order for Emerald City, which is described as:

In the blink of a tornado’s eye, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale and her K9 police dog are transported to another world, one far removed from our own — a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before, where wicked witches don’t stay dead for long and a young girl becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands.

With 14 books in L. Frank Baum's series about the Land of Oz, there's certainly plenty of material to work with.

Emerald City was first conceived by writer Matt Arnold and Josh Friedman, who were intended to serve as executive producers...but then the project died. This is the second time NBC has given a straight to series 10 episode order for Emerald City in the last 16 months. The project is now in the hands of writer and executive producer David Schulner.

With NBC looking for a Friday night companion series for Grimm, does the straight to series order bode poorly for the embattled Constantine, which is still awaiting word of its fate? We hope not...
