Seriously. This Is Not A Late April Fool's Day Joke.
NewsLet us take you back to elementary school for a minute. Remember the Aesop fable "The Dog and Its Reflection" in which a canine carrying a bone in its jaws looked into a stream, saw its own reflection and decided that the other pooch had a better bone, so he barked at it, dropping his treasure into the water below? That is perhaps the most well-known cautionary tale in the world, and its one that came to mind briefly when we learned of the existence of Archie vs. Sharknado.
This just-announced crossover is the latest high-profile one for Archie, a company that is currently kicking all sorts of ass with its tremendous creative line-up of talent and a real willingness to experiment and take risks. The book is the latest example of that, but coming so closely on the heels of Archie vs. Predatorour inner worrywart is concerned that the publisher is on the verge of going to the crossover well one too many times.
That said, here's why such fears are probably unfounded. Archie vs. Sharknadowill be written by Sharknado trilogy (uh huh) director Anthony C. Ferrante and will feature art from Archie great Dan Parent. Clearly this won't just be a quickie cash-in given the talent involved. (And, if nothing else, the high-profileness of the Sharknado phenomenon can only help the already solid Archie brand by bringing new readers to Riverdale, so ultimately this is another smart business move for the company). The press release has the full details on what mayhem you can expect from the one-shot. We especially love the Jawshomage on the cover:
This summer, just in time for Syfy's SHARKNADO 3: OH HELL NO!, fans will see an unexpected, jaw-dropping twist to the Sharknado saga - in Riverdale USA! Just when Archie and the gang think they can kick back and enjoy a few months of beaches, naps and sun, they're faced with a storm of sharknados - heading straight for their hometown of Riverdale. Archie and his friends have to battle the incoming pop culture storm as it creeps up the "Feast" coast to Riverdale - and then try to save what's left of their hometown. Who lives? Who dies? Read the book!
The book will hit stores on July 22nd, the same day that Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!makes its TV debut. What other Archie crossovers would you like to see? Sound off in the comments!
