Every night is a full moon for the people at SyFy. The network announced that it bought the first season of Bitten, a new Canadian series from the indie studio Entertainment One. Bitten is based on Kelley Armstrong’s best-selling Women of the Otherworld novels. The first season will consist of 13 (of course) one-hour episodes. Bitten will premiere on Syfy in 2014.
Bitten will star Laura Vandervoort from Smallville and Ted, as Elena Michaels, the only female werewolf in existence. The furry female never wanted to be a werewolf, splits from her pack and goes to a new city where she gets a job as a photographer. Elena tries to hide her pelt from her boyfriend, but there’s all these half-eaten bodies in the backyard.
Chris Regina, Senior Vice President of Programming at Syfy said “Bitten is a fantastic blend of supernatural action, intense thrills, smouldering drama and a tortured love story that artfully adapts characters beloved for more than a decade by millions of readers around the world. It’s an excellent complement to our roster of programming and we cannot wait to share Elena, her Pack and their stories with the Syfy audience.”
Corrie Coe, Senior Vice-President, Independent Production, Bell Media said “Our partners at No Equal Entertainment, Hoodwink Entertainment, and eOne have brought to life a sexy and suspenseful new series and we are delighted Syfy has found it equally as compelling for their audience. With a strong female lead at its core, we know audiences on both sides of the border will be rabid followers of Bitten.”
Commented Carrie Stein, eOne Television, EVP, Global Production, “The eOne team responded enthusiastically to Bitten because it’s a strong genre piece with a unique premise – the first female werewolf in a pack of men! It’s a sexy, action-packed drama with a love triangle at the center – all very appealing to the global audience!”
Bitten also features Greg Bryk, from A History Of Violence and Rookie Blue, as the werewolf Pack “Alpha” Jeremy Danvers; Greyston Holt, from Alcatraz and Durham County, as Clayton Danvers, Elena’s werewolf ex-boyfriend and Paul Greene from The Client List and Wicked Wicked Games, as Philip McAdams, Elena’s current clueless boyfriend.
