Marvel has reportedly made an offer to Marisa Tomei to play Peter's no longer so elderly Aunt May for the Spider-Man reboot.

News

With Marvel placing Peter Parker firmly back in high school for their upcoming Marvel Universe Spider-Man reboot, that means there will be plenty of time with his kindly, elderly, Aunt May. Except Aunt May might not be quite so fragile anymore.

Varietyreports that Marvel would like to web up Oscar winning actress Marisa Tomei for the role of May Parker. Ms. Tomei is fifty years old, and would be the youngest actress to ever play the part. Tomei won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1993 for her role as foul mouthed and feisty Mona Lisa in My Cousin Vinny.

The Aunt May of the Ultimate Spider-Man comics was considerably younger than how the often sickly character was usually portrayed. She wasn't afraid of grounding Peter for being shady, she was soon in on his secret identity, and took J. Jonah Jameson to task for being a bully. If that's the route they're going here, then Ms. Tomei will be perfect.

Marvel's new Spider-Man movie will be released on July 28th, 2017. It stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Jon Watts will direct. THRbelieves that we'll first meet Aunt May (along with Peter Parker) in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. More as we get it.
