Spider-Man Trilogy director Sam Raimi reflects on The Amazing Spider-Man films, and the new Marvel-backed reboot...

News

At one stage, it looked as if the story of the Spider-Man movies was going to take a different turn. Immediately following Spider-Man 3, director Sam Raimi was all set to make a fourth Spider-Man adventure before he walked away from Sony and his Spider-Man 4. John Malkovich had been all but cast as The Vulture in the movie, but the studio went down the cheaper reboot option, bringing Andrew Garfield in for the title role (instead of Tobey Maguire) and Marc Webb into direct.

The Amazing Spider-Man movies were born.

Now, in a new interview, Raimi has been chatting about the rebooted movies, and what he thinks about Spider-Man going back to the world of Marvel.

Chatting to MTV, he said that "I saw [both Amazing Spider-Man movies], they're great. And I’m really glad that Marvel’s taking it to high school. I think that’s going to be refreshing, and just like my favorite of the Spider-Man comic books."

"I have a lot of faith that they really know their stuff," he added. "The difficulty of going through high school is so unique to a superhero. It’s unique and that’s what Spider-Man’s all about, so that they’re going to explore that head-on is very exciting."

As you more than likely know, Tom Holland has been cast as the new Spider-Man with Jon Watts directing the 2017 feature. The character will more than likely join the Marvel cinematic universe in next year's Captain America: Civil War.
