Netflix Marvel Shows May Arrive Every Six Months

It seems like Daredevilseason one was ages ago, doesn't it? Don't worry, if what Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said at TCA is true, pretty soon we'll be guaranteed two Marvel series a year.

Here's what he said:

 “I think ideally there will be a rhythm of about every six months you’ll get a new season or a new series from the Defenders group. And then they’ll crossover into a combined [Defenders] season once we’ve launched the first season of each of the four characters.”

Jessica Jones is now expected to arrive in the fall, while Daredevilseason 2 will probably drop around the same time the first season did last year, in early spring. Luke Cage is then scheduled to begin production in early 2016, around the same time that Jessica Jones did in 2015, which means we'll get that series around fourth quarter of 2016.

Recently, Birth Movies Death wrote a little about how the folks behind the Marvel Netflix series aren't very far along on Iron Fist yet, despite a number of subtle references peppered throughout Daredevil. Sarandos said that an announcement about a showrunner on Iron Fist is coming "hopefully soon."

It sounds like if Jessica Jones or Luke Cageare hits, they could easily get second seasons, but since those two characters also have a romantic attachment, it's possible that they could team up and free up space on the schedule for something like Iron Fist to drop when the time is right.

Additionally, it's possible that the "pretty violent" Punisher could get his own series after he appears on Daredevil season 2. "It is possible for sure," Sarandos said. "That’s the beauty of the Marvel universe." He also confirmed that these characters are also allowed to appear in the films if necessary.
