Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman have a big story to tell if Hellboy III ever happens, it seems...

It increasingly looks as though Hellboy III is a sequel that's never going to happen, not least because director Guillermo del Toro has no shortage of projects on his plate. His latest film, Crimson Peak, arrives in theaters next month. And once he's done promoting that, he's back behind the camera for Pacific Rim 2, which is due in the summer of 2017.

But Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman, has been chatting about a third film, and while admitting, "I don't have a burning desire to put that shit on again," he added, "Guillermo told me what the resolve of the trilogy would look like, in broad strokes, and it's such an amazingly theatrical, cinematic idea that I found it essential that we do it."

Insisting that the Hellboy franchise was "designed to be a trilogy," Perlman revealed the idea for the third film: "He's the beast of the apocalypse. He has to take down civilization. He has to. It's non-negotiable."

As for the twins that Liz (Selma Blair) announced she was having at the end of Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Perlman says, "The two twins: one would look like the mom and one would look like the dad. And one of them was going to be completely fucking corrupt, the other one angelic. Which one was which? Only Guillermo would make the fucked-up-looking one be the angel. So then that adds to the saga."

Del Toro has been quite candid in the past about the financial hurdles that Hellboy III would need to leap to get to the screen, so as eager as he and Perlman may be to finish their trilogy, the odds remain as long as ever...
