Simon Kinberg wants a sequel to Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds, worked out before the first film is released next February.
NewsWhile promoting The Martian, which he produced, at the Toronto Film Festival, Simon Kinberg spoke about the upcoming Deadpoolmovie he's also overseeing for Fox, telling Collider, "I have seen a rough cut of Deadpool and it's fantastic. It's a really good movie. It delivers on the promise of the trailer."
Confirming once again that it's going to be an R-rated movie, Kinberg said the film is "just darker and edgier and weirder in the best way -- like Deadpool should be -- than any other movie in the genre."
Kinberg also revealed that there's already talk about Deadpool 2, saying, "We certainly are talking about the sequel -- we were talking about the sequel while we were making the movie just because when you make a film like this that's from a serialized source material, you hope that it's the first of many."
Noting that Fox is "feeling good" about the movie, Kinberg added, "Hopefully before it comes out we will be well into the process of figuring out a sequel."
Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role. Tim Miller is directing, from a script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. The movie arrives in theaters on February 12, 2016.
