Director Jon Watts reveals Spider-Man's age in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and other tidbits.

News

Doing press for the UK release of his new film Cop Car, director Jon Watts has also said a few words about his next film, the latest big screen reboot of Spider-Man.

Watts landed the job of directing the new Spider-Man earlier this year, and Tom Holland has been cast as the webslinger. Holland will make his debut as Spider-Man in next year's Captain America: Civil War, before starring in his own standalone movie that arrives on July 28th, 2017.

Talking to Empire magazine, Watts has given hints about the direction of his Spider-Man, saying, "There are only so many times you can kill Uncle Ben...I love the idea of making a coming-of-age high school movie. We’re really going to see Peter Parker in high school and get deeper into that side of it. He’s just 15 now."

About his star, Watts added, "Tom was pretty perfect. He’s very athletic. He can actually do a backflip! If he didn’t already capture the spirit of the character, with that on top the kid is Spider-Man."

A 15-year old Peter Parker? That's in line with the direction that Marvel suggested it would take.

Marisa Tomei has also been cast in the new Spider-Manas Aunt May. The film is being penned by Vacation's John Francis Daley and Jonathan M Goldstein.
