Updated 10/2/15:

HBO has confirmed to Deadline that the network did indeed sit down with director Zack Snyder to discuss a possible Watchmen TV series. According to Deadline, these discussions took place months ago and there are no active talks at the moment.

“Preliminary discussions regarding Watchmen have occurred, but we have no additional information and no deals are in place,” HBO said in statement after Colliderbroke the story yesterday.

We'll keep you updated as we learn more.

Original Story 10/1/15:

According to a report from Collider, HBO and director Zack Snyder have sat down to talk about developing a Watchmen TV series for the network, although no further details about what the show would actually be (a prequel, a direct adaptation, or sequel) have been released. This report has not been confirmed at this time, so take it with a grain of salt.

We probably don't have to remind you that Snyder, who is currently in charge of three of Warner Bros.' BIG upcoming DC cinematic blockbusters, including next year's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, previously adapted Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons'Watchmen for the big screen in 2009. The film received polarizing reactions from critics and fans alike at the time, and the movie is not looked upon fondly by Moore.

Since then, as Colliderpoints out, WB and DC haven't done much more with the Watchmen name, except for a prequel comic book series called Before Watchmen. Nine different miniseries based on the different characters from the original story were published to the continued chagrin of Mr. Moore. Could it be that this supposed series will adapt those stories as a companion piece to the earlier film?
