NewsThe Justice League Dark movie hit something of a road bump earlier this year when writer-director Guillermo del Toro reportedly departed the production; in June, the Hollywood Reporter broke the disappointing news that he was "no longer attached to the project."
The good news is that Justice League Dark is still very much alive at Warner; that's according to a report over at the The Tracking Board, where it's said that the DC comic adaptation is moving ahead under the watchful eye of producer Scott Rudin. Rudin doesn't have much to show for himself in the superhero movie realm, but he's produced all kinds of unusual and sometimes great films since his career began in the early 80s -- Clueless, The Truman Show, Team America and Moneyballare just a few of the films he's been involved with.
Under Rudin, Justice League Dark appears to be a priority at Warner, with shooting reportedly set to begin in 2016. Who will direct it currently isn't clear, but del Toro, who was once set to helm the film and also wrote a draft of the screenplay, will remain with the project as a producer.
There are also claims that the Dark Universe group of superheroes, headed up by John Constantine and potentially including the likes of Swamp Thing and Deadman, will initially stand apart from its less sinister counterpart, the Justice League. Later films may, however, introduce characters from the Dark Universe into other DC movies.
With filming potentially only a few months away, it's still not clear who will direct Justice League Dark. If the reports are accurate, it's likely we'll be hearing an official announcement from the production fairly soon.
