One of Batman's creators is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But only one of them.

File this under: "getting it half right." While batting .500 in baseball is a great thing, in the case of making sure the right people get credit for the right things, it's a pretty miserable ratio.

Bob Kane is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This in itself isn't a bad thing. After all, he co-created Batman, the character that (to hear DC and Warner Bros tell it, at least) is the single most important adventure character of the last century. But that's just it...Bob Kane is merely Batman's co-creator, but you wouldn't know that to read DC's breathless press release on the subject, which not only doesn't mention Bill Finger once, but gives Bob Kane singular "creator" credit twice in the course of the article.

To be clear, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros have at least finally taken the crucial steps of adding Bill Finger's name to the creator credits in the comics and in TV and film adaptations. The fact that it came about 70 years too late aside, now one has to wonder if that was just to soften the blow of this latest publicity stunt, in which current steward of Batman's cinematic destiny Zack Snyder will rock up to the legendary Walk of Fame in the Batman v Supermanversion of the Batmobile alongside DC co-publisher Jim Lee.

So, it's just the latest in a long line of indignities, not the least of which being the fact that a contractual quirk meant that Kane's name was signed to countless Batman stories for the first few decades of his published history, even ones he had no hand in, despite the fact that other artists and writers were actually creating the stories.

Bob Kane gets his star on October 21st. Maybe Bill Finger will get his next year. While we're at it, Stan Lee already has his. Perhaps Jack Kirby should get one, too.
