Marvel turned down a pitch for a Doctor Strange movie from Guillermo del Toro and Neil Gaiman...
NewsIt's taken a long time for Marvel's Doctor Strange to get to the big screen. The film is now shooting with Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role and Scott Derrickson directing. It's due in theaters on November 4, 2016.
However, it could all have been a little different. As it turns out, Neil Gaiman and Guillermo del Toro were at one time in early talks to make a Doctor Strange film for Marvel back in 2008.
Gaiman revealed this on his Twitter feed:
@KurtBusiek I still wish Marvel had been interested in a @RealGDT& me Dr Strange movie, because I wanted to write Clea so badly after 1602.

It's unclear exactly when the pair pitched the movie, or what the pair's take on Doctor Strange might have been, but Marvel passed.
Hopefully, Gaiman and del Toro can join forces on other project at some point in the future...
