The Star Wars: The Force Awakens novelization hardcover will arrive on January 5!
NewsIt's no secret that Disney is keeping Star Wars: The Force Awakens extremely close to the chest. Which is why even the novelization was delayed a few weeks in order to avoid any spoilers for the film. Although the e-book edition of the novelization will still arrive on Dec. 18 (the same day as the film's release), you'll have to wait until Jan. 5 to get a hardcover edition of the book.
As we reported earlier this year, Alan Dean Foster, who wrote the first Star WarsEU book, Splinter of the Mind's Eye -- not to mention he also ghost-wrote the novelization for A New Hope -- is writing The Force Awakens novelization.
Until then, here's the very familiar cover of the book:

Original Story 04.19.15:
Star Wars is really embracing its history with its return to the big screen: announced at the Del Rey book panel at Celebration Anaheim, Alan Dean Foster (Splinter of the Mind's Eye) will write the Star Wars: The Force Awakens novelization. The eBook will arrive the same day as the movie -- Dec. 18 -- and the hardcover will hit shelves in January 2016.
In case you're not caught up on your Star Wars history, Splinter of the Mind's Eye (which is an adaptation of an emergency script for a plan B low-budget sequel to A New Hope if the film hadn't done well at the box office) was the first Expanded Universe piece ever written.
Also at the Del Rey panel, it was revealed that the Journey to the Force Awakens series will have at least six or seven important pieces of fiction, although those weren't announced. There have been a couple of Journey books announced recently, though.
Battlefront: Twilight Company by Alexander Freed was announced for Nov. 3. While not directly based on the new Battlefront game, it will be inspired by it. It's written from the POV of a Rebel soldier.
Rise of the Empire, collecting A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller and Tarkin by James Luceno and featuring three short stories, one of which has ties to Aftermath by Chuck Wendig, arrives on Oct. 6.
