Starting in December, there's gonna be a whole lot more superhumans in the Marvel Universe. Inhumanity is going to tell us why!

What might happen to the Marvel Universe if many, many more people were suddenly granted superpowers? This is the question that Inhumanity, the upcoming event from Marvel Comics will attempt to answer. But what's that, you say? How can we be talking about the next big event when Infinity, this summer's event, hasn't even really kicked into gear yet? Silly reader! This is comics! It's never too early for the next event.

However, it's clear that Inhumanityis going to spin out of some of the events of Infinity, and crucial to this will be a new ongoing series, Inhuman, by Hawkeyewriter, Matt Fraction (no artist has been announced yet, although the accompanying image is by Steve McNiven). It's been awhile since the Inhumans (who were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby during the height of their Fantastic Four run) have had a central role in the Marvel Universe, but Inhumanitylooks to change that.

“Our focus characters are drawn into the palace intrigue of this shattered Inhumans Royal family,” says Fraction. “It becomes a superhero story and a mythical story, all revolving around turning the world into a world full of superheroes.”

How, exactly does the world get all of these new superheroes? Well, the Inhumans derive their powers from the Terrigen Mists, which are somehow going to be let loose on Earth during Infinity, which means anyone with even a hint of Inhuman DNA is going to find themselves mutated.

“You might learn that your new self is fantastic, beautiful, filled with immense power,” says Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso. “By the same token, you could turn around and find out that you’re nothing. You’re a blob. You have no powers. You can create a little flame out of your pinkie.”

“There is a secret superhero kingdom, and you might belong there," adds Fraction, "What do you do? And what does Iron Man do? We’re turning the entire Marvel universe into a potential battlefield. And regular people are in the middle.”

There's plenty more from Matt Fraction and Axel Alonso over at EW, so get going!
