CONFIRMED! The Batman TV show from the sixties starring Adam West and Burt Ward as the Caped Crusaders is coming to DVD and Blu-ray!
After nearly fifty years, fans will finally be able to watch the legendary BatmanTV series from 1966 in an official capacity from the comfort of their own homes. Batman, which starred Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin, has been tied up for decades because of legal complexities stemming from the endless parade of celebrity guest stars, the question of music rights, the fact that the show was a 20th Century Fox production but the characters owned by Warner Bros. and countless other issues. While a staple in syndication since it aired it's final episode in 1968, no episode of Batmanhas EVER seen an official home video release in any format (although the film version of the TV show, which was released between seasons 1 and 2 has, at least, been commercially available for quite some time).
The news broke in the strangest way, via a tweet from Conan O'Brien. However, we have confirmed that this is legit, although no details are available at the time of this writing.

The unofficial announcement comes on the heels of what has been a year that has seen DC and WB carefully putting the 1966 Batman brand back in the public eye. From general merchandise like Batmobile replicas, t-shirts, an incredibly popular line of action figures and retro "Mego-style" dolls, a note-perfect comic book series from writer Jeff Parker and a host of brilliant artists like Jonathan Case, Ty Templeton, Mike Allred, and more (titled, appropriately, Batman '66), even an unlockable Adam West Batman character skin for popular video game Batman: Arkham Origins, it's clear that something has been in the works.
As recently as October, Adam West spoke about the increasing likelihood of an official DVD/Blu-ray release for Batman, calling it "relatively imminent"in an interview with the good folks over at 13th Dimension. Well, he was right. With any luck, we'll see this in 2014 without any further delays. But...holy anticipation! It's about time!
