This October, the promising creative team of Peter David and Scott Koblish merge Deadpool's style with Sun Tzu's timeless ideas!

Wade Wilson is a busy man. For the past year and a half, he has had both his own solo series and a spot in Thunderbolts. They've been giving Cullen Bunn a bunch of different 4-issue minis to do side-stories. He killed other Marvel heroes, fictional icons, other versions of himself, dealt with a zombie outbreak, and just finished tangling with Carnage. Now it seems he has minis coming out the wazoo in the next few months. This week, we get Deadpool vs. X-Force, in the fall we're going to have Hawkeye vs. Deadpool, and just announced for October, Deadpool's Art of War.

Art of War, Sun Tzu's masterpiece book, will be attached to a contract killer who is an otherwise master at both planning and fighting on the fly. Having such a structure mixed with Deadpool's febrile-minded genius (I should probably put that in quotes: "Genius"), the results should be at the very least entertaining.

Part of that is because Deadpool is going to be written by none other than Peter David. While David is a true veteran of the game, having written such classic takes on Incredible Hulk, X-Factor, Supergirl, Young Justice, The Adventures of JELL-O Man and Wobbly, and many others, this is his first major attempt at writing Deadpool. Kind of surprising, considering he's known for mixing humor with soul-shattering drama, which is where Deadpool is at his best.

Then again, this isn't exactly his very first time using him. In an issue of X-Factor, David had Deadpool show up for a page, albeit off-panel, where it was revealed that he and old flame Siryn finally knocked boots via one-night stand. Siryn then decided that it was over between them and that was that.

Scott Koblish is no stranger to the Merc with a Mouth. He's been a regular on the Deadpoolsolo series, mainly showing up to do the art for the "lost issues," where we see Deadpool comics that came out across the decades. His work is one of the true highlights of the run. The guy does a great Jack Kirby impression.

Art of War itself tends to pop up in comics every now and then. It got a lot of play in the recent Avengers Arenaand Hush always loved quoting the book whenever he could find a good reason. This should at least be more respectful to Sun Tzu than having to be associated with Avengers Arena, so there's that.

DEADPOOL’s ART OF WAR #1 Rewrites the Book on Warfare This October!

It’s been called the definitive work on military strategy and tactics. Sun Tzu’s seminal Art of War has influenced warfare for hundreds of years. From the battlefield to business and beyond, there has never been a work of more import when it comes to strategy and preparation. Until now! Today, Marvel is proud to announce DEADPOOL’S ART OF WAR #1– the first chapter in a new 4-issue mini-series from New York Times Bestselling writer Peter David (All-New X-Factor, The Incredible Hulk) and fan-favorite artist Scott Koblish (Deadpool)!

The Merc With a Mouth knows a thing or two about combat, and he’s gearing up to write his own version of Art of War. I mean, Sun Tzu didn’t even have laser guided missiles or an Incredible Hulk back then, so how accurate can his book on war really be? But it’ll take more than a great book if Deadpool wants to outsell the original. His plan? Cause enough chaos and war across the world that they’ll have to buy his book when it comes out! How’s that for strategy?

“[Deadpool’s] guided by the words of Sun Tzu and tries to apply the book’s thinking to the war he winds up starting as a result,” says writer Peter David, in an interview with Marvel.com. “His results are, shall we say, mixed.”

Asgardians, Avengers, X-Men – you name it, Deadpool’s probably going to have some trouble with them when he tries to star the next world war. Prepare for the next step in military strategy when the chaotic mayhem begins in DEADPOOL’S ART OF WAR #1 this October!
