Production on Arrow season 3 is underway, and the first new DC superhero of the season has been cast.
Get ready for a wave of superhero and supervillain casting, because the Arrowseason three train is getting ready to roll. The first new hero to join the ranks of the show is Tatsu Yamashiro, also known as Katana. Katana will be played by Devon Aoki (Sin City, 2 Fast 2 Furious). So, what do we know about the Arrow-verse version of Katana?
While Deadline's info about the character's roots is a little garbled, their character description lists her as "one of Oliver’s mentors in the flashbacks and a critical influence on his journey to eventually become The Arrow of present day." This lines up with earlier leaked casting descriptions for a character dubbed "Akiko" who would be a major part of this season's flashback sequences.
As for the other characters named in those aforementioned leaked casting descriptions, this probably means that "Akiko's" husband is not named "Toshi" but is actually Tatsu's husband Maseo Yamashiro. If you're familiar with DC Comics lore, Maseo is integral in Tatsu's journey to become a superhero, and this will certainly be one of the driving arcs of the flashbacks.
In the comics, Katana is known for her proficiency in the martial arts, and her skill with the sword of the same name. She was created by Mike W. Barr and Jim Aparo. Recently, the character was Batman's partner on the Beware the Batman animated series.
