Are you amped for the Outlander premiere? If not, perhaps you will be after this latest trailer...
If you had any doubts about just how excellent Ron Moore’s adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlanderseries was going to be (away with you, unbelievers) now is the time to check those hater-filled sentiments and take the medicine you’ve got coming your way. Whyfore the sassy tone? Because the newest trailer for the series (debuting August 9th on the Starz network) has dropped and it is jaw-dropping in its awesomeness.

Gregorian choir singing at a fever pitch? Check. Shirtless Jamie Fraser being all chivalrous and what have you? Double check. Claire’s disappearance and the frenzied search for her as she falls through time? Oh that’s a big check! A few glimpses of the Jacobite uprising and some Highlanders getting wild with their weaponry? You know it’s a check. The implication that Claire Randall has every reason to be concerned that the locals of the 18th century think she’s a witch? ALL OF THE CHECKS THAT REMAIN. I was so amped and nervous after watching this trailer -- and I actually know what happens!
When it comes to book-to-film adaptations I can be an annoying literalist. I’m not alone in this, I know -- I’m looking at you, George R.R. Martin enthusiasts. I’m that way with Outlander, but for good reason. In her novels Gabaldon has done basically all the heavy lifting required of a solid screenplay. There isn’t a beat of the new, action-laden trailer that isn’t cribbed word for word from the source, and that is, in a word, awesome.
