Syfy continue their ambitious slate of scripted programming with an adaptation of the final book in Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey series.

Syfy is bringing another book by Arthur C. Clarke to TV, and this one has some additional weight behind it. 3001: The Final Odyssey, the fourth and final book in Arthur C. Clarke's series that began, famously, with 2001: A Space Odyssey, is getting the mini-series treatment, and it has Ridley Scott as an executive producer. 3001 will be the second Clarke adaptation from Syfy, with the first, Childhood's End, arriving in mid-2015.

“I have always been a fan of Clarke’s extraordinary Odysseyseries, and certainly Kubrick’s adaptation of 2001.  I am thrilled to be part of bringing that legacy to audiences and continuing the great cinematic tradition that this story and its creators deserve,” said Ridley Scott in a statement.

“Arthur C. Clarke is the father of modern science fiction,” said Syfy President Dave Howe. “We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Scott Free and Warner Horizon Television to bring to the screen, for the very first time, the final chapter of this extraordinary masterpiece.”

Of course, 2001was made by Stanley Kubrick, and the sequel 2010was released in 1984, directed by Peter Hyams and starring Roy Scheider, John Lithgow, and Helen Mirren. The third book in the series, 2061: Odyssey Three has been passed over in favor of 3001. More on this as we get it!
