‘From Hell’ Drama Based On Jack The Ripper Graphic Novel In Works At FX

Get out your scalpels and cut yourself some opium, mix up a little absinthe because From Hell is coming to FX. The cable network announced that it will be developing a drama series based on Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell’s 572-page Jack the Ripper graphic novel.

20th Century Fox adapted From Hell into a film starring Johnny Depp and Robbie Coltrane and directed by the Hughes brothers in 2001. It was produced by Don Murphy, who will be executive producer on the FX Series. The adaptation is being written by David Arata, who wrote Children Of Men.

Unlike the movie, which chased Jack through the eyes of Johnny Depp’s detective character, the graphic novel From Helltells the Jack the Ripper story with the focus squarely on Jack.

According to Deadline, Don Murphy, who also produced the Transformers franchise, always saw From Hell as a TV series. Probably all the pages.

The graphic novel From Hell dripped out between 1989 and 1996 and was put together in one volume in 1999. It is considered one of the all-time top 10 graphic novels. Though it’s a fiction, it’s got annotated historical notes running 46 pages.
