Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely take you to the world of the Blue Beetle and the Question in The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1.

When The Multiversity was first announced ages ago (seriously, it's been so long, please don't make me actually give you a date), the standalone issue that probably most excited fans was Pax Americana. Why is The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1 potentially the gem of the series? Because it's Grant Morrison teaming with perhaps his greatest artistic collaborator (with apologies to the brilliant Cameron Stewart and Frazer Irving), Frank Quitely.

So, yes, the creative team that delivered All-Star Superman and Flex Mentallo is doing a bit of a Watchmenhomage, taking us to Earth-4 to use the superheroes that the Watchmencharacters were actually based on. Is that a high enough concept for you? Here, we'll let Mr. Morrison explain:

"I suppose it’s about America and specifically about America’s self-image as the world’s policeman. It tries to make a mind-devouring narrative Mobius strip out of the complicated, contradictory idea of using violence to enforce “peace.” ... it might also cast a jaded eye on how lessons learned from the leftist, deconstructionist “realistic” superhero stories of the 1980s were assimilated and re-tooled to create post-9/11 Marvel Studios-style “realistic” super-soldiers and champions of the Military/Industrial complex."

Check out the preview pages (seriously...check these out, because they're thoroughly perfect) and go read the rest of the chat with Grant Morrion over at Entertainment Weekly.
