Considering The Walking Dead continues to prove that it is the most popular scripted show on television, it seems inevitable that another comic book world from creator Robert Kirkman’s mind would be adapted.
Indeed it has with Fox International Channels announcing that Cinemax is developing Outcast, a new series based on an upcoming comic series from Kirkman about demonic possession.
Following the story of a young man named Kyle Barnes, Outcast uncovers a world where its protagonist has been haunted by possession since he was a child, and now as an adult he must uncover the truth before the world changes for the worst.
In a press release, Kirkman, who for the first time ever will be writing the pilot, drew direct comparisons with The Walking Dead.
“Despite the success of The Walking Dead, Outcast is only my second foray into the horror genre,” Kirkman said in the statement. “I think Kyle Barnes is every bit as compelling as Rick Grimes and demonic possession is way scarier than zombies–so this is going to be fun.”
Kirkman will serve as executive producer alongside David Alpert. The comic, which is scheduled to debut in 2014, is to be written by Kirkman and drawn by Paul Azaceta.
