Don't expect Mark Ruffalo to have a standalone Hulk adventure anytime soon...
NewsWith Marvel Studios exploring the depths of its comic book catalog for its third phase, many of us by now had expected a fresh Hulk film to be part of the mix. But in a new interview with USA Today, Ruffalo admitted that a solo Hulk adventure "feels even further away." He added, "It's not Marvel's property, it's Universal's property. I don't know. It seems really problematic."
What Ruffalo is alluding to is the fact that Universal still holds distribution rights for a solo Hulk movie, following the pair of films it backed previously: Ang Lee's Hulk and Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk (which starred Eric Bana and Edward Norton respectively).
If the rights can be worked out, then Ruffalo is still enthused about having his own Hulk movie. "I’d love to do it, it’d be really fun. There’s a lot still to do with the character," he said.
"When you get off of the planet Earth, you can start playing with that stuff a little bit," he continued. "I’m angling for it. I don’t know if it’ll happen now, but at some point, I’d like to see it happen."
Meanwhile, Hulk is set to have a seemingly sizable part in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, which is reportedly something of a buddy movie.
Noting that Tom Hiddleston's Loki would be on board too, Ruffalo said of Thor3, "I’ve talked to Taika [Waititi, the director of the movie] a little bit and I like where it’s headed," adding, "It’ll be a lot of funny back-and-forth, especially with Taika, he does that really well. It’ll have that kind of antagonistic Odd Couple-thing going on."
Thor: Ragnarok starts production early next year and is set for release on November 3, 2017.
