An important piece of the Flash TV show cast has been found, and he's the father of Iris West.
Casting for the CW's live-action Flash TV show is gathering steam, with a major supporting role now taken care of. Law & Order's Jesse L. Martin (will play Detective West, Barry's mentor and the father to his likely love-interest, Iris West. The Hollywood Reporter describes Detective West as "an honest, blue-collar cop who is a surrogate father to Barry. A soulful, funny and caring father to Iris -- Barry's potential love interest -- West came up through the foster care system and took Barry in after his mother's slaying and father's imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports his efforts to prove his father's innocence."
The Flash is a spinoff of the CW's other DC superhero TV series, Arrow, which introduced Barry Allen (the man who will soon be Flash, played by Grant Gustin) in the two-part season finale "The Scientist" and "Three Ghosts." The conclusion of "Three Ghosts" even got a portion of Flash's iconic origin story out of the way. The original plan was to introduce Flash's costumed identity in a later episode of Arrow season two, which would then serve as a back-door pilot for the Flash TV series, but that plan has been scrapped in favor of a standalone Flash pilot.
